Education Funding
Many South Africans miss out on bursary opportunities simply because they don't know about them. JobSA360 lists funded programmes across a wide range of fields of study.
Skills Development
A learnership is a formal work-based learning programme that leads to an NQF qualification. They are open to unemployed South Africans and do not always require matric.
A learnership combines structured learning at a college or training provider with practical on-the-job training at an employer. You earn a monthly stipend while you learn and work.
Most learnerships are open to South African citizens aged 18–35 who are currently unemployed. Some require Grade 10 or Grade 12; others are open to those without matric.
On completion you receive a nationally recognised NQF qualification, practical workplace experience, a completed portfolio, and improved employment prospects.
Government departments, state-owned enterprises such as Eskom and Transnet, and large private companies all run SETA-accredited learnership programmes throughout the year.
Career Guidance
Applying for jobs in South Africa requires preparation. Here are some honest, practical tips to help you stand out from the crowd.
Keep your CV to two pages. List your qualifications, skills, and work experience in reverse chronological order. Tailor it to each job — a generic CV rarely works.
A cover letter tells the employer why you want this specific job. Mention the company by name, explain how your skills match their requirements, and keep it under one page.
Before any interview, read the company's website and understand what they do. Employers appreciate candidates who understand the organisation's mission and values.
Government jobs in particular have strict closing dates. Applications submitted after the deadline are not considered, regardless of how strong they are.
Many jobs are filled through referrals. Tell people in your community, family, and social circles that you are looking for work. LinkedIn is also a powerful tool in South Africa.
Always have certified copies of your ID, matric certificate, and any other qualifications ready. Government applications almost always require certified documents.
